The astounding Lego Death Star 10188

In 2008 the Lego Group released the Lego Death Star 10188 set. Fans were chomping at the bit to be able to add this spectacular, Lego set to their variety because of how collectible the Star Wars themed Lego sets have proven to be. The 10188 Lego Death Star is the second Death Star released by Lego and is a bit separate from the first set because it was made for actual play rather than just to be displayed. There are a few Star Wars figures that are available for the first time with this version of the Death Star, along with new versions of Han Solo and Luke Skywalker in Storm Trooper gear. Very cool. The Dianoga trash mammal is also made available for the first time so you can play the scene where Luke Skwyalker and Leia leave from the detention center.

With three thousand eight hundred and three Lego pieces, the 10188 Death Star is a monstrosity of a build. There are 4 levels available for play after the set is completed, each one designed for a scene from the Star Wars films. The instruction book itself is huge with two hundred and fifty pages of step by step instructions on how to build the Death Star. Once completed you will have yourself a very fun build with walls that can be removed, spinning chairs, and rotating guns for separate firing angles. With all the detail the set offers you can enjoy hours of realistic play based on scenes from the films. With the separate levels on the Death Star playset you have the Emperor's throne room, a hangar bay with Vaders Tie Fighter, an Imperial consulation chamber for meetings, a maintenance area for Droids, and other areas for playing out scenes from the movies.

After completion the set weighs in at about 20 pounds. It is fairly sturdy for being such a huge Lego set. Typically sets that are this large and involved do not like to get moved colse to but this Lego set can be moved reasonably well without falling apart. Once you do have the set complete, a few things to watch out for are the death ray lasers and a few other small parts. Otherwise the set hold up pretty well and is pretty solid. This version of the Death Star is not exactly true to the movie versions as it includes parts from both the original Death Star that was never completed and also includes parts from the second one which was completed. Some fans do not like that about this set, but others argue that it allows for more playability options that otherwise would not be possible.

Though is comes with a hefty price tag the 10188 playset is a great value and makes for hours of fun. Those who know Lego know that the Lego Group does not do whatever halfway and so this set is beyond doubt worth the price. The 10188 Lego Set is built for ages twelve and up.
