If your child is into Lego then you have a fair idea of how hard it can be to keep up with the most recent sets. Lego is one of those associates that make awesome toys, year in and year out. Each set is hard to miss and it can be hard to pass them by.
In a financial squeeze however it is hard to purchase new sets on a quarterly basis and parents can find themselves at a loss to buy Lego to add to a child's collection. There are ways to help encourage children to use the Lego they already have, with a few well-chosen additions. Apart from road base plates which we mentioned in an earlier article, Lego also sells plain baseplates in separate colors and sizes and there are others on eBay from older sets available too, which may be moulded into shapes.
Basic baseplates are naturally large flat mats of plastic which have rows and rows of Lego studs on one side. Plain baseplates are currently available in the colors gray, blue and green. Each of these baseplates can recite a separate play environment, determined by the scope of your child's imagination.
Green can be the grass in a garden, the undergrowth of a wild forest, the plantings on a small farm or the grounds of a knight's castle.
While blue can recite the ocean that surrounds a castaway's island, a harbour filled with boats or the undersea kingdom of Atlantis.
Gray can become the desolation of a post apocalyptic world, the futuristic city populated by robots or a local building site.
With the addition of a child's existing Lego pieces these easy mats of plastic can become new worlds on which their minifigures can study and their imaginations can grow.
